St. Francis Hosts Final Golf Benefit

Golf TournamentOn May 21 and 22, St. Francis Hospital Foundation commemorated the 25th and final Tobin Benefit Golf Classic at the Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville.

A total of 236 golfers and over 50 volunteers participated during the two-day event. Over $50,000 was raised with proceeds going toward the purchase of new hospital equipment. In addition to golf, funds were raised with on-course contests, silent action, raffle, and merchandise sales.

The Tobin family was honored at dinner on Thursday evening for their years of dedication to the Foundation and St. Francis Hospital. Vince Tobin has hosted the tournament since its inception in 1991 with brother Bill Tobin joining after a few years along with immediate and extended Tobin family members.

Twenty-five years ago, the funds from the tournament went to improving equipment in the Imaging Department. This year, St. Francis Hospital Foundation took a nostalgic twist and decided that this year’s earnings would again go to the Imaging Department, only this time for a new ultrasound machine instead of a fluoroscopy unit.

Overall tournament champions won with a score of 57. Team members were Steve Weir, Brandon Bowers, Jeff James, and Barry Bowers.

Plans for the future of the golf fundraiser for the Foundation are still being considered. Foundation directors and golf committee members know that it will be difficult to improve on the success of ‘The Tobin.’
