A Familiar Face to Lead St. Francis Hospital in Maryville

​​Michael Baumgartner named president 

6974010, BaumgartnerMike.jpgST. LOUIS, MO (February 13, 2015) – SSM Health is proud to announce that a familiar face is returning to lead St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. Michael Baumgartner, who was president 1997-2007, will once again lead the hospital.


Baumgartner is currently the president of Baptist Health, a 410-bed rural teaching hospital in Madisonville, Kentucky. Prior to that he was president of St. Francis Regional Medical Center, an 86-bed acute care hospital in Shakopee, Minnesota. At both of these hospitals he's focused on achieving strong results in employee engagement, patient satisfaction and physician recruitment.


"We're pleased Michael Baumgartner has decided to return home to St. Francis Hospital," said Chris Howard, President of Hospital Operations for SSM Health. "During his time here he was integral in the hospital earning the Missouri Quality Award and helped recruit talented physicians to Maryville. We look forward to working with him to continue to enhance the care provided in this community."


Baumgartner will replace Gray Cox, who's been president of St. Francis Hospital since 2007. His first day will be March 16, 2015 and will coincide with Gray Cox's last day.
